TalkBanStop: Helping people block gambling, for good

A project by Evident Group: Talk Ban Stop is a collaboration between GamCare, Gamban, and GamSTOP, three leading organisations offering tools and support for gambling addiction recovery. Each partner offered a valuable tool: blocking software, exclusion schemes, and live support. But users in crisis had to navigate separate services an overwhelming journey at the exact moment they needed clarity most. The goal: create a single, unified landing page that combines all three tools into one clear path to recovery.

Our approach
We began by listening. Through interviews with individuals affected by gambling (both directly and as loved ones) we learned how critical clarity is in a moment of crisis. The insights were simple but powerful: users didn’t want persuasion. They wanted support without shame, and action without friction.
We focused on:
Low-fidelity wireframes and content design that guided users without overwhelming them.
Careful use of imagery and colour to communicate calm, hope, and trust. We created a series of colour options that we user tested to expand the partnership's palette.
Strategic thinking around privacy, ensuring users didn’t have to log in, set cookies, or risk being “found out” when seeking help.
Collaboration and constraints
With three partners involved, stakeholder alignment was crucial. We ran regular check-ins to keep all voices heard while moving forward with purpose. Design decisions were stress-tested not only for UX but for sensitivity, confidentiality, and long-term adaptability.
Development
We looked at multiple different lofi concepts that spanned messaging as well as UX considerations. Key features include a checklist that lets users map their progress (balanced by a need to remain anonymous whilst using the site) and also mechanisms to nudge users to the next tool once one had been adopted.
The outcome
71% increase in engagement conversions, helping more users access tools when they needed them most.
A simplified, supportive interface: no login, no judgment, just immediate help.
A scalable model for future campaigns and collaboration across partner touchpoints.
We created something emotionally intelligent, not just functionally sound. Many concepts explored (even those not used) shaped the broader identity of the partnership, from imagery to tone of voice, with the potential to influence future marketing campaigns.
